Ceroc Club Brisbane is a volunteer run community dance club that has welcomed dancers of all ages and backgrounds for more than 35 years. Our club is built on friendship, respect, social inclusion and a shared enjoyment of Modern Jive dancing. This Code of Conduct helps us maintain a safe, respectful and enjoyable environment for everyone.
1. Respect and Confidentiality
• Treat everyone with courtesy and respect.
• Respect others’ privacy.
• Gossip, rumours, or the misuse of confidential information are not acceptable.
2. Hygiene
• Maintain good personal hygiene.
• Wear clean clothing and use deodorant where appropriate.
• Bring a spare shirt or towel if attending extended classes or social dances.
3. Health
• Do not attend if you are unwell, have contagious symptoms, or have been advised to isolate.
• Help protect the health and wellbeing of the dance community.
4. Safety
• Follow directions from instructors, organisers, and venue staff.
• Dance responsibly and consider the safety of others. Avoid lifts, aerials, drops or other high-risk movements during social dancing unless they form part of an approved activity and can be performed safely.
• Report hazards, injuries, or unsafe behaviour to an instructor or committee member as soon as possible.
5. Respectful Behaviour
• Be friendly, courteous, and inclusive.
• Bullying, harassment, intimidation, discrimination, or offensive behaviour will not be tolerated.
• Sexual comments, suggestive remarks, innuendo, or behaviour that makes others uncomfortable are prohibited.
6. Physical Contact and Consent
• Dance involves physical contact, but it must always be appropriate and respectful.
• Inappropriate touching, unwanted physical contact, and sexual harassment are strictly prohibited.
• Pay attention to your partner’s comfort and boundaries and stop immediately if requested.
• Anyone may decline a dance, partner change, or physical interaction without pressure, criticism, or explanation.
7. Supporting Our Community
• Help foster a positive, welcoming, and respectful club culture.
• Members are encouraged to help new dancers feel welcome and included.
• Do not make malicious statements or deliberately damage the reputation of the club, its volunteers, instructors, members, or events.
• Raise concerns through appropriate club channels so they can be addressed fairly and constructively.
8. Advertising
• Club classes, events, and communication channels are for club-related activities.
• Do not promote competing dance clubs, schools, classes, or events during club activities without prior committee approval.
• Casual discussion of other dance interests is welcome, provided it is respectful and does not disrupt club activities.
9. Dress
• Wear clean, safe, and appropriate clothing.
• Clothing that is offensive, excessively revealing, or creates a safety risk may not be permitted.
• Wear suitable footwear to protect yourself and the dance floor.
10. Reporting Concerns
• If you experience or witness behaviour that breaches this Code, report it to an instructor, organiser, committee member, or designated contact.
• Reports will be treated seriously and handled as confidentially as reasonably possible.
11. Breaches of this Code
The Committee retains discretion to take immediate action where required to protect the safety or wellbeing of members, guests, volunteers or instructors. Failure to comply with this Code may result in:
• A verbal or written warning;
• Removal from a class or event;
• Suspension of membership or attendance privileges; or
• Permanent exclusion from club activities where appropriate.
Where reasonably practicable, a person will be informed of the concerns and given an opportunity to respond before significant disciplinary action is taken. The club will consider all available information before making a decision. If there is an immediate safety risk, temporary action may be taken while the matter is investigated. By participating in club activities, members and guests agree to uphold these standards and help maintain a respectful, safe, and enjoyable dance community.
