Ceroc is a funky form of Modern Jive with a history dating back to France in World War II, when the American GIs showed the French swing and jitterbug. During the sixties the Americans, British and Australians lost interest in partner dances when the twist and lone disco dancing became all the rage. Still Ceroc kept going strong in France. In the eighties modern jive began to migrate throughout the world. These days hundreds of thousands of people in the US, UK, Europe, Australia and NZ enjoy dancing Ceroc. Ceroc has now become a popular style of dance all over Australia, with venues under various names in most major cities. Today Ceroc has changed a lot from its beginnings in France. It has incorporated moves from other dance styles such as the dips and drops from ballroom, the dirty dancing moves from Latin American and the aerials from Rock 'n' Roll and ballet. With all this variety, Ceroc has become an addictive form of dance with something for everyone! Ceroc is just one of the many names that this dance style of dancing is known under. Many names are company or business names. Some examples are Modern Jive, LeStep, and Leroc. Whatever the name, it's a great style of dancing and learning it is a heap of fun! See here for a definitive history of how this dancing style evolved (under the Leroc name). We even get a special mention! |
